The Barcelona Chair was originally designed in 1929 by German architects and designers Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich. It was designed for Germany's entry in the International Exposition of 1929, which was held in Barcelona, Spain.
At the time only two were produced, intended for the Spanish royals to view the opening ceremonies of the exhibition. The design of the chair is said to be derived from Roman folding chairs known as Curule chair, which were upholstered stools used by Roman aristocracy.
The chair is known as an icon of modernism and, despite being designed more than 80 years ago, compliments modern and sophisticated interiors very well.
Materials used include chrome on a steel frame, with leather cushions. It is available in black or white leather.
This chair is well complimented by the Barcelona Style Footstool.
